Question: Why doesn't this script work with blogs on blogspot.com?

"I understand you cannot use this method if you have a blog on blogger blogspot. why is this and is there anyway that I can get around it?"

This script is written in PHP and is executed on the server. It looks for files that are found on that server to generate the category files. With blogspot.com blogs, you cannot upload or run PHP files.

The script must reside on the same server as your blog files. With hosted blogs, Blogger uses FTP to transfer files into your web server. You then hit the script and publish your category files.

I have some ideas on how to implement a category publisher for blogs hosted on blogspot.com. But I heard Blogger may be coming up with their own solution in the next few weeks. So we'll see what they come up with...

Well, I heard a similiar rumor about Google releasing categories via Blogger, but I was wondering since Google is giving out free space over on Google Pages, I wonderer if it would be possible for users to host the code there.

Would you be able to make an adjustment for that?

As far as I can tell, Google Pages does not allow you to host PHP scripts. So the answer is probably not... But since they don't give out free accounts right now, I won't know for sure - although it does not look like it will. Sorry.

That's great news, i hope blogspot comes up with that categories function themselves. It really starts getting crazy after you have a few posts.

Yeah, it'd be cool if Blogger had categories and tags, but til then this script is great! Just sorted it - def made my blog easier to navigate. Cheers!
